ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (April 9, 2024)Approximately 90 Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) students will be part of the 2024 Honors Convocation ceremony, Tuesday, April 23, at 3:30 p.m. in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. The ceremony recognizes the university’s highest academic performing students.  

This year, members from the ECSU Honors Program and eight students from each academic department will stand together to be recognized at the annual event. Students enrolled full-time and who earned mention on the Chancellor’s List, Dean’s List, or Honor Roll will also be acknowledged.  

“I am confident our faculty, staff and (student) families are proud of them,” said Dolapo Adedeji, director of the Honors Program. “I congratulate them all.” 

The keynote speaker is Ama Agyapong, a 2016 ECSU graduate, who earned her bachelor’s degree in physics. She currently serves as a process engineer at Lam Research in Fremont, Calif. A former Honors Program student, she is a research and technical analysis expert in metallization of both semiconductor and metallic materials for electronic, optical, and catalytic applications as well as a specialist in physical vapor deposition techniques used in chip manufacturing.   

Additionally, five seniors from the Honors Program will be awarded Honors Blazers. Eligibility for the Honors Blazer requires completion of the Honors program curriculum, Honors Thesis and maintaining a minimum of 3.25 GPA. A Chancellor's Emblem will also be presented.  Recipients of the Chancellor's Emblem must maintain a 3.75 GPA for six consecutive semesters starting from their admission as a freshman to the Honors Program.
